Brief History of the College

C.M.Dubey Post Graduate College is one of the most renowned educations Society in Bilaspur – Central India. This college has mastery for its social, educational environment and best learning as well as teaching for more than 50years.

It was 1956, when there was a single College in the city. In concern for the current necessities and to promote higher education in the region this College was established in 1956. It was the time when Late Pt. Dwarika Prasad Dubey took decision to establish the college on the name of his ancestors named “Chitani Prasad Mitani Prasad Dubey College” only with 41 Students and Principal Dr. D.P. Shukla, who was elected the first Principal, including Principal and seven Lecturers, Mr. Dubey started the college in Operative Bank Building on 31st, July1956. This College was inaugurated by gracious hand of Pt. Dwarika Prasad Mishra, Vice Chancellor, Sagar University (M.P.). Since then the story of this college has been continuously glorious, which describes the prosperity of the College.

Today this college is centre of attraction for students not only in Bilaspur and Chattisgarh but other states of India like Madhya pradesh, Orissa, Jharkhand, Bihar, West Bengal, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Uttaranchal, Andhra Pradesh, Kerala even more. In past years students from these states are pursuing regular course in this College.

Late Pt. Dwarika Prasad Dubey donated his precious seven acre land for the college and in 1956 with capital amount of 1.5 Lakhs he built the College building. At initial stage the college was authorized to run only two departments from Saga University. One department was Arts in which only girls were admitted; the other Commerce Department was Co-education. As time passed more departments were installed, in 1960 Department Of Science was started. In 1963-64 Pt. Ravi Shankar University was introduced in Raipur. After the existence of this University, this College started the Graduate Programs in the College and in 1069-70 M.Sc. in various subjects of science came in to existence. During this period classes for Postgraduate in Banking also started, a detailed survey describes, that during that time the College was the Second College in India, which used to run this course.

After this the milestone of Postgraduate Diploma in Business was not far, which was accomplished in very less time.

In 1983-84 when Guru Ghasidas University, Bilaspur came into existence, many new courses were started in College which are B.Com. Under which Tax Procedure and Practice, B.Sc. under which Microbiology and Computer Science as well as courses under Post Graduate Diploma in Computer Application also started.

Guru Ghasidas University, Bilaspur (C.G.) is the only University in the district with its huge building. This building consists of offices/Staffs and various study departments which are highly equipped with latest technologies. Also a huge library, Seminar hall, S.L.T. Deptt., hostel for more than 100 students, N.C.R.T. building for non-residential students, Sports Deptt. and Auditorium.
